Daniel 5: Verse 1- 6
"King Belshazzar gave a great banquet for a thousand of his nobles and drank wine with them. 2 While Belshazzar was drinking his wine, he gave orders to bring in
*the gold and silver goblets* that Nebuchadnezzar his father had taken from the temple in Jerusalem, so that the king and his nobles, his wives and his concubines might *drink from them.*
3 So they brought in the gold goblets that had been taken from the temple of God in Jerusalem, and the king and his nobles, his wives and his concubines drank from them. 4
*As they drank the wine, they praised the gods of gold and silver, of bronze, iron, wood and stone.*
COMMENT:
First we have a clear symbol of the wine of the Babylonian king, drinking from cups of silver and gold, as the "wine of Babylon". Wine of Babylon means the lesser law, the lesser doctrine or a combination of true and false.
Here we also see again just like in the interpretation of Daniel 2 and 3 as well as Revelation 18, concerning the fall of Babylon, that the metals of:
"gold and silver, of bronze, iron, wood and stone.". are being repeated.
See also 1. Corinthians 3
We have also established that these metals are connected to those who build their house, their kingdom, their temple on the temporal, on the letter and not the spirit of the law. (read the article : "Kingdom of hearts" That means to have an overfocus on, or stronger love for the temporal over the everlasting. Hence then to worship creation. The law of the flesh, of self of this world.
This again is connected to self righteousness, the righteousness of this world, over the higher, holier representing the righteousness and kingdom and character of Jesus Christ. This is also the sanctified heart and mind. Which is also to advance forward to the new, everlasting law, covenant and order. From unsanctified to sanctified humans, by the two-fold purpose of grace through faith. This is also the image of God.
Verse 23 -27
" You praised the gods of silver and gold, of bronze, iron, wood and stone, which cannot see or hear or understand."
"Therefore he sent the hand that wrote the inscription.
25 “This is the inscription that was written:
mene, mene, tekel, parsin
26 “Here is what these words mean:
Mene: God has numbered the days of your reign and brought it to an end.
27 Tekel; You have been weighed on the scales and found wanting."
COMMENT:
So we see again, how this Babylonian king is sentenced because he built his house, his kingdom on sand, on the temporal, on the things (idols) of this world, rather than on the everlasting rock of Christ. Stuck in Babylon, under the old covenant and order of the beast, hence receiving its image and mark.
